I just wrote a huge message about politics, history, and current
events. I got so worked up, I thought I was gonna sit here and type a
book.
So I deleted it. You might ask, "What did Rob delete?"
Well, I have been watching world news, media sensationalism, lousy
politicians, and war. I started to write about how stupid I think
people are.
As I write this, I find the most difficult thing to do is to write
without expressing any opinion. I am yelling at some politican on tv
this very moment. If I say anything about this idiot (except he is an
idiot) I start putting my personal personal feelings in this, and it
becomes a debate.
I am not writting to debate. Your thoughts are your thoughts. Your
beliefs are your beliefs. Your culture is your culture. Already, a
comment like that can be construed as a political side. Do I delete
this too? Well I might as well delete the whole damn thing again, and
never post to my website again. Whoops, sounds like a political side
again.
Can I say anything about celebrities? I hate all these celebrity "rags"
and tv shows. Why should we care about them? They are just people who
have more money than most people.
Could I create a magazine where I just gossip about your neighbors?
"Steve Smith went out and got his news paper in his underwear, and we
have photos!". Something tells me that if People Magazine wrote an
article, and interchanged Steve Smith with Brad Bitt, the magazine would
fly off the racks! Is it just because everyone has seen Brad Pitt on TV
and everyone knows who he is? If the article replaced Steve Smith with
Dom Deluise, would anyone read it?
Ok, so now I think I have validly argued that all anyone wants to see is
pretty people in their underwear. Guess what? Those magazines are
FREE! They are called catalogs. Everyone gets them, so everyone sees
the same person. Now we can all sit by the water cooler and say "Hey,
did you check out the latest Sears catalog?". Can we stop worrying
about celebrities, and what they are doing? Most of them are just eye
candy, and they aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.
If I have made everyone understand and agree that we don't need to worry
about celebrities, can I also put forth the same argument toward
celebrities and politics? Can we stop listening to what they have to
say, and think for ourselves? However, does bashing on celebrities
expose my political side? I bet that as individuals, most people would
say, "you are right, we shouldn't listen to celebrities". I can also
bet that people will still focus attention to celebrities and variety
political shows.
I think I am about ready to expose myself, and not physically but
politically. I think that this crazy attention to celebrities and their
views is called propoganda. Humans eat up propoganda like candy. Same
thing Kim Jong-il feeds his people, same thing Hitler fed his people,
same thing the middle eastern people have been fed, and sadly, the same
garbage we hear from our politicians with their personal agendas.
There is a huge difference that we as citizens of the United States of
America have over most of the world. We have a greater access to truths
and facts of this world. We have the greatest level of free
expression. And we are allowed to feel and say anything we want. As
proof, this posting of mine will be posted on the internet for all to
see without anyone controlling the content but myself.
I am just asking people of the world to think constructively, use
lessons from history to learn and grow, not to blame and deny
responsibility.
There is so much blame transference in this world. It goes all the way
from Family Circus cartoons, with characters named "not me", to any
business organization, where people are afraid to accept responibility
for fear of loosing your job, all the way to our major middle east
conflicts, where people blame other religions and countries.
People don't accept responsibility because of fear. Lets stop being
afraid, and lets gain some control in our lives.
Funny thing, I am afraid too
